Swedish Massage is the most common form of massage used in the west and is what usually comes to mind when most people think about massage. The focus of the Swedish massage is to relax the entire body using a system of long gliding strokes in the direction of blood returning to the heart. Swedish massage is also exceptionally beneficial for increasing the level of oxygen in the blood, decreasing muscle toxins, improving circulation and flexibility while easing tension.
Deep Tissue Massage (Anna's specialty)
Deep Tissue Massage techniques are used to release chronic patterns of muscular tension. Slow deep strokes, using fingers, thumbs and elbows apply direct pressure across the grain of the muscle, tendons and fascia. This opens the fibers in the tissue, easing muscle tension and creating space in the tissue and lengthens the fibers. The pressure is adjusted to each client's tolerance. Massage should not be painful when done slowly and correctly. During the massage, I will place a warm towel on your back to warm up the tissue.
ROM Stretch Therapy
ROM Stretch Therapy is a therapeutic hands-on stretching session dedicated to alleviating sore, stiff muscles and increasing overall flexibility and joint range of motion. The experience of ROM Therapy can sometimes be described as a sort of “massage for your joints.” Every single person who walks away from a ROM session expresses in one way or another that they feel absolutely amazing, wholesome, renewed and pain-free. Each ROM session is personally customized with specific stretches and postures for an individual’s needs. The gentlest approach with passive range of motion will stretch and release every area of tightness in your body, with natural pain relief. ROM Stretch Therapy can also help improve faulty posture, help give you a more restful night’s sleep, increase blood circulation, promote more quality breathing, and prevent injuries. Simply put, ROM Therapy will awaken and rejuvenate even the deepest of muscle fibers, to allow your body to feel more youthful and comfortable.
In this treatment, silky smooth basalt stones are heated to a comfortable temperature and are placed beneath and on top of the body. As the client relaxes on the massage table, the soothing heat of the stones penetrate deeply to melt muscle tension and stress away. More stones along with oil are then used to massage the body from head to toe. This treatment is both luxurious and healing. Soothing stone massage releases tension, eases muscle soreness and stiffness and increases circulation and metabolism. The heated stones have a sedative effect that reduce stress and promoted deep relaxation.
Prenatal massages are a healthy way to reduce stress and promote overall wellness. Pregnancy massage focuses on the unique needs of expectant mothers, including relief from headaches, congestion, fatigue, back pain, muscles spasms, swollen feet, and sciatic pain. The expectant mothers will relax in sideline positioning with a supportive, soft body pillow to alleviate the extra strain on the lower back and pelvic areas where the pressure from massage techniques are applied. Soft cushioned pillows may be placed behind the mother’s back to provide elevation to massage the neck, arms and feet. Depending on where the individual is during her pregnancy, certain techniques such as Swedish massage or Reflexology may be used to address any specific needs or requests.
